Active Learning「Fire Education」

This week at Harbourfront International School, we had a fire education demonstration as part of our Experienced Themed Activity for safety and social skill education. People from Osaka Gas came to our school and taught us about fire education. The fire making Meister demonstrated how to make fires and how to put them out.

It is very important to learn about fire these days, as the use of fire has decreased in our daily lives. In ancient times, people are said to have learned about fire from lightning strikes and forest fires caused by volcanic eruptions. Along with this knowledge about fire, we asked the Fire Meister to demonstrate how to start and stop a fire!

According to the fire education program, humans have been using fires for safety, such as using fires to protect ourselves from animals, for light that illuminates the dark night, warmth that warms our bodies during the cold winter, and for food, to make it tastier and more nutritious. Mankind evolved by using fire.

The program also included an ancient fire starter!

After being taught how to strike a match and how to put out a fire safely, we experienced making a fire using a string type fire starter set. * For safety, when strength was required, the Fire Meister would perform the demonstration.

Fire is a very important energy source for humans, and it supports our comfortable lives, but it can also be dangerous if we don't know how to use it properly.

During this fire education presentation, students experienced the fire through smell, sound, and appearance. In the kindergarten class, we will carry out activities to further deepen this learning.

今週Harbourfront International Schoolでは、2月から行なっている安全と社会的なスキルをテーマの学びの一環で「Fire Education」について、大阪ガスの方にスクールにお越しいただき「火育体験プログラム」の体験型学習を行いました。

日常生活の中で火の利用が減ってきている昨今、「火」について学ぶことはとても大切です。古代、人は落雷、火山の噴火による山火事から「火」を知ったと言われ、火を扱うことは人類史における最大の出来事とされています。今回は、火についての知識とともに、火起こしから発火までのデモンストレーションを「火育マイスター」の方に行なって頂きました！

プログラムで学んだことは、「火」を利用し、動物から身を守る「安全」、暗い夜を照らす「明るさ(光)」、寒い冬に体をあたためる「暖かさ(熱)」、食べ物を焼く「おいしさ」を、人は火を通して得ることができたということです。「火」を使うことで、人類は進化してきたのですね。

また、プログラムでは古代の火起こしにも挑戦しました！

先にマッチのすり方や安全に火を消す方法を教えていただいた上で、ひもきり式火起こしセットで体験を行いました。

※紐を回転させるのは強い力が必要のため、大阪ガスの方に実施していただきました。

現在の快適な暮らしを支える「火」はヒトにとってとても重要なエネルギー源ですが、正しい使い方を知っておかないと危険な存在でもあります。

火育では火の匂い、音、姿を目の当たりにし、学びの場を持つことができました。幼稚園児クラスでは、この学びをさらに深める活動を行なっていきます。
